Today is our 30th anniversary.

And - yes - I was a child bride!

The years have flown by while we've pursued life as a married couple.  And it has been a pursuit.  Life isn't easy.  Married life isn't easy.  We've had our disappointments, disillusions, and times of discontent.  Those obstacles strengthened our relationship because we didn't let them derail our goal - our pursuit - of a life together.

So why have we persevered when so many marriages haven't.  I'd like to say we're just that good... but in truth, we're blessed.  When we stood in the church before God and said our vows, we meant them.  They were not said lightly.  And He has blessed us time and time again through the good times and the bad because - I believe - we have honored our vows and our commitment to Him. We don't always get it right.  It's not always pretty.  But our hope - and marriage - is build on nothing less, than Jesus' blood and righteousness.

Congratulations! That is an accomplishment. And what you say is so true!

We just celebrated 17, but it hasn't been woozy newlywed bliss all the way. You have to mean what you say when you make your vows, and keeping them involves living through less that ideal seasons of your life and making sacrifices--sometimes giving up on dreams. If I had left the first time things got rough, we wouldn't have even lasted 5 years.

Great post!

Wonderful Pegg! I thank the Lord everyday that he brought me and my wife together (nearly 39 years ago). As you wrote, we truly meant what we said, and God blessed us to keep the vows we made.

Cool post, Pegg. We will be celebrating our 30th anniversary later this year as well. Like you said, its not because we're so much better, but because we've made the choice to honor each other, our vows, and Jesus.

Happy Anniversary, Pegg! What a lovely picture.

What you said in your post is so true. (And ditto to what Tracy said.) My husband and I recently celebrated our 31st anniversary. In this day and age, we're becoming the minority.

Thanks for all the nice comments. I love seeing all the other lengthy marriages out there! We're playing havoc with the national averages now. ;)

Congratulations, Pegg! You look so very young! We are coming up to our 29th anniversary in July. Two sons later - now 27 and 22 - a long and happy marriage is a blessed thing!

Sorry I'm so late with this, but happy belated anniversary! A stable, long-lasting marriage - something definitely worth pursuing. :)
